About Chinese Restaurant Awards

Founded in 2008, the Chinese Restaurant Awards has grown into an influential event highlighting Metro Vancouver’s unique and exciting Chinese culinary scene. The Awards are considered the authority on everything Chinese food - serving as a restaurant and dining guide for local and visiting food lovers, and are divided into three components: Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards (awarded by a panel of distinguished food writers and industry influencers), Food Bloggers' Choice Awards (awarded by a panel of top ranking food bloggers) and the publicly-chosen Diner’s Choice Awards. Since 2013, Greater Toronto, another bustling hub for Chinese food, was selected to be part of the Awards.

The role of the Chinese Restaurant Awards increased significantly when Canada officially received ‘Approved Destination Status’ from the Republic of China in June 2010. It is a well-known fact that wherever they travel in the world, Chinese people prefer to eat Chinese food. As discerning connoisseurs, they eagerly follow news of the best places to dine, news of top chefs or, now, the results of the Chinese Restaurant Awards.

2013 - Launch of Chinese Master Chefs project

2014 - April 23 - Chinese Master Chefs Gold Medal Dinner, the first-ever Canada and China culinary collaboration where five recognized award-winning Chinese chefs from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai were invited to Vancouver, to join forces with four local Chinese Master Chefs to create an elaborate feast.  At the event, the awards announced the establishment of Chinese Master Chefs Scholarship through the Vancouver Community College to benefit the students who are interested in entering the Chinese culinary industry.

The Chinese Restaurant Awards join food and marketing professionals who are Chinese food enthusiasts with a strong passion for promoting Asian arts, culture and cuisine in North America. The goal of the organization is to provide the dining public with the most comprehensive Chinese Dining Guide in Metro Vancouver and Greater Toronto - serving as a resource for both locals and international visitors seeking the region’s best Chinese food.
