I love food! I considered myself very lucky to be living in Vancouver, the famous food city that offers the best Chinese cuisine outside of China.  I am not talking about just a few outstanding restaurants, but a good presentation of Chinese cuisine and produce overall in Metro Vancouver. 

When Craig and Stephen asked me to join in the discussion about organizing an award system to define the flourishing Chinese food scene here, I nodded instantly.  Everyone on the committee is not only passionate about Chinese food culture, but believes it is about time to recognize and embrace Vancouver’s excellent Chinese culinary offerings and to take Chinese dining to a higher level.

The one conversation became numerous meetings, and now a colossal culinary event that involves not just the panel of judges, but the consuming public. With both the Diners’ Choice winners list and the Critics’ Choice of 25 Signature Dishes as a guideline, the Chinese culinary enjoyment will definitely expand and non-Chinese will no longer be confused by the overwhelming selection of Chinese restaurants.    


Yes, it takes a lot of planning and team effort to stage the inaugural Chinese Restaurant Awards, but with over 7000 public votes for the Diners’ Awards and food lovers’ attention everywhere, all I can say is this, “We did it, and let’s do it again!
