{"id":1722,"date":"2016-01-30T14:47:46","date_gmt":"2016-01-30T22:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chineserestaurantawards.com\/archives\/?p=1722"},"modified":"2016-03-12T14:49:49","modified_gmt":"2016-03-12T22:49:49","slug":"top-chefs-showcase-best-of-east-west-in-vancouver-xinhua-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chineserestaurantawards.com\/archives\/top-chefs-showcase-best-of-east-west-in-vancouver-xinhua-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Top chefs showcase best of East, West in Vancouver &#8211; Xinhua News &#038; China Daily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.xinhuanet.com\/english\/2016-01\/30\/c_135059944.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Read Original (Xinhua News)<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"Content\" class=\"artTxt\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/europe.chinadaily.com.cn\/life\/2016-01\/31\/content_23328194.htm\">Read Original (China Daily)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>VANCOUVER, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) &#8212; Some top chefs from Canada, China and <a href=\"http:\/\/search.news.cn\/language\/search.jspa?id=en&amp;t1=0&amp;t=1&amp;ss=&amp;btn=0&amp;ct=Afghanistan&amp;n1=France&amp;np=content\">France<\/a> joined forces here Friday evening at a popular restaurant to showcase the best of East and West as part of the city&#8217;s 8th annual Chinese Restaurant Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2008, the awards have been a highlight of Vancouver&#8217;s unique and exciting Chinese culinary scene.<\/p>\n<p>The awards nowadays serve as a restaurant and dining guide for food lovers by recognizing the top restaurants in the city in categories such as best Chinese dish, social media award and diner&#8217;s choice award.<\/p>\n<p>Craig Stowe, Chinese Restaurant Awards president, told Xinhua that the Chinese Restaurant Awards are a celebration of the unique culinary achievement in Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have over 350 restaurants that specialize in Chinese cuisine, so northern Chinese, southern Chinese, dim sum, noodle houses, fine dining. It&#8217;s quite amazing,&#8221; he said, adding that Vancouver is one of the top places outside China to enjoy Chinese dishes.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, organizers invited three top chefs from the Shangri-La hotel chain in Vancouver and Paris, as well as one of Vancouver&#8217;s top pastry chefs for a multi-course dinner.<\/p>\n<p>The theme was &#8220;East Meets West,&#8221; with the chefs taking turns presenting their top dishes inspired by both Western and Chinese ingredients, techniques and traditions.<\/p>\n<p>The event organizer said Vancouver has been going through a culinary transformation, with Chinese restaurants becoming an important part of the food scene.<\/p>\n<p>Stowe said the food scene here has started to reflect the changing population and tastes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Vancouver, what&#8217;s happened is half the population is Asian and a big portion of that is Chinese,&#8221; he said, adding that the city had a wave of Chinese immigrants from Hong Kong in the seventies, and a second wave from the Chinese mainland later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"625\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"zrbj\" height=\"24\">\n<div align=\"right\">Editor: xuxin<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read Original (Xinhua News) Read Original (China Daily) VANCOUVER, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) &#8212; Some top chefs from Canada, China and France joined forces here Friday evening at a popular restaurant to showcase the best of East and West as part of the city&#8217;s 8th annual Chinese Restaurant Awards.
