{"id":213,"date":"2013-03-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-03T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2013-03-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-03-03T08:00:00","slug":"RR0228","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chineserestaurantawards.com\/archives\/RR0228\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8217;The Oscars&#8217; of the Chinese restaurant world, Richmond Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\nThe best of the best Chinese restaurants and dishes from around Greater Vancouver were celebrated at the 5<sup>th<\/sup> annual Chinese Restaurant Awards at the River Rock Show Theatre on Tuesday afternoon.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n&ldquo;It&rsquo;s exciting,&rdquo; said Craig Stowe, the founding director of the event.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n&ldquo;We see it as the Oscars of the Chinese restaurant [world],&rdquo; he said.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\nThe event started off with a<br \/>\nreception where three executive chefs demonstrated their cooking skills<br \/>\nand served their award winning dishes for approximately 250 guests to<br \/>\nsample.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\nThis was followed by the<br \/>\nofficial awards ceremony where 20 critic&rsquo;s choice awards, chosen by<br \/>\nseven judges, and 18 diner&rsquo;s choice awards, chosen by the general<br \/>\npublic, were handed out.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\nRichmond restaurants won<br \/>\nmore than half of the awards, with Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant<br \/>\nadditionally being honoured for being the most awarded restaurant in the<br \/>\ncritic&rsquo;s choice category over the past five years, having won eight<br \/>\nawards in that time.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n&ldquo;Richmond is known for the best Chinese food in the world outside of China,&rdquo; said Stowe.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\n&ldquo;[It] is known for the variety and complexity of Chinese food,&rdquo; he said.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in\">\nThe <a href=\"index.php\" title=\"https:\/\/chineserestaurantawards.com\/archives\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Chinese Restaurant Awards <\/a>has gained international recognition since it began and has helped increase business for award winners.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSeven judges voted for the best dishes after a full<br \/>\nyear of tasting. Top Shanghai Cuisine&rsquo;s Pan Fried Shanghainese Buns, a<br \/>\n2013 Diners&rsquo; Choice Awards winner, was voted as a must-eat by the<br \/>\njudges. Kirin Restaurant at City Square wowed the judges with three<br \/>\ndishes&mdash;Deep Fried Boneless Chicken with Minced Prawn, Glutinous Rice,<br \/>\nand Chestnut Paste, Geoduck Two Ways, and Smoked Live Lobster with<br \/>\nAssorted Mushroom&mdash;making them a top winner in the category. The new<br \/>\ntitle, Greater Vancouver&rsquo;s Critics&rsquo; Choice Awards &#8211; Most Awarded Chinese<br \/>\nRestaurant, was given to Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant.
