\n(Vancouver, B.C.) Bringing Metro Vancouver’s Chinese food lovers together with one dining guide, the 5th annual Chinese Restaurant Awards has announced the winners of 2013 Diners’ Choice Awards. This year, 34,273 votes were cast over a period of eight weeks with an average increase of 34%—the largest turnout in the history of Diners’ Choice Awards.\n<\/p>\n

\nCelebrating Metro Vancouver’s Chinese culinary landscape, the Awards
\nembraces local food enthusiasts’ growing knowledge and understanding of
\nChinese cuisine. The extended eight-week voting period in 2013 was
\nimplemented to encourage diners to further explore the city’s food scene
\nby nominating and voting for their favourite restaurants. As a result,
\nfive new dishes were added to the categories to reflect the public’s
\ninterest in finding the restaurant that excels in making a signature
\ndish.  <\/p>\n

In Best Taiwanese Beef Noodle, diners selected
\nChef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle as the winner. The legendary beef noodle
\nhouse made its debut in Metro Vancouver after fourteen years of
\noperation in Taiwan and winning three championships in the Taipei
\nInternational Beef Noodle Festival. It was also a winner for one of the
\n2012 Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards.<\/p>\n

Sun Sui Wah
\nSeafood Restaurant has been recognized as the outstanding winner of Best
\nB.C Dungeness Crab Dish. Its varied and original approach to preparing
\ncrab is loved by many. Top Shanghai Cuisine Restaurant wins the Best
\nPan-fried Shanghinese Bun for its commitment to authenticity in making
\nthis iconic regional delicacy. For the remaining two new categories, Ho
\nYuen Kee Restaurant takes home the title of Best Stir-fried Prawns with
\nEggs and Mui Garden wins the title of Best Salt-and-Pepper Pork Lion.
\nBoth dishes seem easy to prepare but are Cantonese classics that
\nshowcase a chef’s deft and skill.<\/p>\n

The remaining thirteen
\ncategories continue to show the depth of the Chinese culinary
\ncommunity. Highlights include Richmond’s BBQ Master, which has won the
\naward of Best BBQ Shop for five consecutive years. Their roasted BBQ Cha
\nSiu and BBQ Pork Belly sell out regularly and attract discerning
\nshoppers from all over Metro Vancouver. Deer Garden Signatures reigns
\nsupreme in the Best Hong-Kong Style Café category with its famous rice
\nnoodle in fish soup, the kind of comfort food that warms your heart on a
\nrainy day. Crystal Mall’s Xiang Yuan Qiao Bridge Rice Noodle, is a
\nfirst time winner for Best Food Court Stall, offers a wide selection of
\nYunnan-style noodle soup dishes at unbeatable prices, a true hidden gem
\nin Burnaby.<\/p>\n

All of the 2013 Diners’ Choice Awards
\nwinners will be invited to attend the awards ceremony on February 26,
\n2013 in the Show Theatre at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond.
\nThe most anticipated Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards will also be
\nannounced on the same day. The complete 2013 dining guide will assist
\ndiners in navigating and learning more about the diverse and creative
\nChinese culinary culture in Metro Vancouver.\n<\/p>\n
