Born and raised in Taiwan, chef Eric Sze has made sharing the food of his childhood a central part of his work in New York. After co-founding 886, he and partner Andy Chuang opened Wenwen in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in 2022, creating another home for Taiwanese cooking with a personality of its own.
Wenwen draws on the pleasure of a Taiwanese family gathering: generous dishes, lively conversation and something for everyone to share. The food has the familiarity of home cooking, while Sze’s sense of humour and life in New York give the restaurant its contemporary character. It is an approach that welcomes newcomers while keeping a close connection to the flavours Taiwanese diners know.
The Lily Flemming Fried Rice brings a playful name to a familiar favourite, while the Beef Fat Chili Oil Noodles offer rich, savoury flavour and the comfort of a well-dressed bowl of noodles. These are dishes made to be enjoyed together, with enough character to become the reason for a return visit.
Selected for the 2026 Elite 12 UNITED STATES by the Chinese Restaurant Awards Taste Advisors, Wenwen is recognised for its distinctive Taiwanese cooking and its ability to bring that food to a wider audience. Sze gives his culinary roots room to grow in Brooklyn, carrying the warmth of the Taiwanese table into the life of the neighbourhood.
