The Voyage Of Ultimate Flavour: Chinese Restaurant Awards Returns For 15th Year
The pioneering initiative has celebrated Chinese culinary excellence in Metro Vancouver since 2008 and will host its signature DINING by the Awards event on November 18, 2024
After a short hiatus, the Chinese Restaurant Awards returns for its 15th year as the world’s longest-running Chinese culinary showcase. A panel of 20 judges have come together to determine a record 35 awards, recognizing standout Chinese restaurants across Metro Vancouver, along with emerging talent and master chefs. The celebration culminates on November 18, 2024, with a special edition of DINING by the Awards at Chang’an Restaurant, featuring a seven-course “The Voyage of Ultimate Flavour” dinner by chefs Alex Chen (Iron Chef Canada winner), Li Bo (Fish Man), and Leo Wang (Chang’an Restaurant), blending Malaysian Chinese, French, Sichuan, and Northern Chinese cuisine. Since 2008, the Chinese Restaurant Awards have transcended the boundaries of a traditional culinary awards event, having highlighted 27 renowned Canadian and international chefs, spearheaded unique cross-cultural collaboration dinners, and introduced the vibrant menus of Metro Vancouver’s Chinese restaurants in 12 dining events, including hotel partnerships.
“I’m truly honoured to see the Chinese Restaurant Awards reach this incredible 15-year milestone,” says Rae Kung, managing director, Chinese Restaurant Awards. “When we first started, our mission was to not only celebrate Chinese culinary excellence in Vancouver but also to create a deeper appreciation for its global influence. Over the years, we’ve created so many memorable moments, from our signature DINING by the Awards events to international culinary initiatives. I’m excited to continue this journey, and I look forward to many more years of showcasing the incredible diverse talent we have right here in Canada.”
The Awards this year will be announced in two phases: Top 30 long list on October 22, 2024 and a full results ceremony for the Elite 15 shortlist on November 5, 2024. Categories include: Elite 15 Awards (new), Critics’ Choice Signature Dish Awards, Master Chef of the Year, Rising Star Chef of the Year, Dim Sum Chef of the Year (new), Elite Service Crew Member of the Year (new), and Best New Restaurant.
Tickets for the DINING by the Awards 2024 event on November 18, 2024 are limited to 100 seats and available for $280 (+GST) per person. Tables of 10 can also be purchased for $2,800 (+GST). In addition to the seven courses, guests will also enjoy exclusive whisky pairings by The Dalmore and wine pairings by BC winery Clos du Soleil, a Alumni UBC Wine Club member. Award judges Lee Man (Chinese Restaurant Awards judging panel chair) and Fred Lee (BC Community Achievement Award recipient) are co-emceeing the evening.

Fresh Ideas Start Here co-founder Jenice Yu; Ai & Om Knives chef and owner Douglas Chan; Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar executive chef Roger Ma; former Globe & Mail food critic Alexandra Gill; and longtime Chinese Restaurant Awards judge Brendon Matthews round out the panel of judges, alongside Man and Lee.
